Alto

Originally called Lulah City, Alto was incorporated in 1895, and the name is derived from an Italian word for "High". Alto lies partially in Habersham and partially in Banks County. The Town is home to the Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute and adjacent to the recently opened 2,800 acre Wilson Shoals Wildlife Management Area for hunting, fishing, hiking, bird watching and picnicking. Each May, the city has a “Spring Fling” festival with a parade, arts and crafts booths and food vendors.
