The Friends of the Clarkesville Library is pleased to present acclaimed folk artist and author Linda Anderson as the featured speaker at its annual Book and Author Luncheon at noon on Saturday, March 16, at Piedmont College’s Brookside Dining Room.
Self-taught artist Linda Anderson, an insightful and entertaining speaker, was raised in the shadow of Mount Yonah, and many of her works depict scenes from her childhood. Her book, Flashes of Memory: An Appalachian Self-Portrait, is a collection of paintings and her delightful comments as presented in her one-woman show at the High Museum of Art’s Folk and Photography Galleries in the winter of 2004. The book, beautifully produced by Kennesaw State University Press, will be available at the luncheon for purchase and autographing by the artist.
Ms. Anderson, whose work is widely admired and collected, is one of America’s foremost memory painters. Her paintings are in the permanent collections of Atlanta’s High Museum of Art and New York City’s Whitney Museum of American Art. A resident of Habersham County, she has been featured in a series presented by Georgia Public Television, was the subject of Patricia Gimenez’s Master of Arts in Art History thesis at Kent State University, and was one of the authors honored at the 2011 Georgia Literary Festival.
Linda began painting in 1978 and several years later took her memory paintings to the Banks County Fair in Homer, Georgia, where her talent was discovered. Since then she has had many showings and her work has been featured on the covers of the Standard Telephone Company Directory of 1994 and the November – December 1995 issue of the Presbyterian Church USA’s These Days, and she has had many showings. She most recently participated in “Give Me That Old Time Religion” at the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art at Piedmont College.
